London: The Photographer’s Gallery

by admin on Feb.23, 2010, under photos

This quick shot is taken in London in 2008. I like the composition of the phone box, the entrance to The Photographer’s Gallery and the woman behind the phone box.

Venice – undoubtedly the most beatiful city built by man

by admin on Feb.10, 2010, under photos

Venice is a city in northern Italy, the capital of the region Veneto, with a population of almost 300,000. The city historically was the capital of an independent nation. Venice has been known as the “La Dominante”, “Serenissima”, “Queen of the Adriatic”, “City of Water”, “City of Bridges” and “City of Canals”. Luigi Barzini, writing in The New York Times, described it as “undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man”. Venice has also been described by the Times Online as being one of Europe’s most romantic cities. I was in Venice two times and I must see that it is correct.

Check out my complete gallery Life: Italy from Venice

The city stretches across 117 small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon. The saltwater lagoon stretches along the shoreline between the mouths of the Po and the Piave Rivers. Venice is great for stree-photography. Nice streets, romantic places, historical monuments, crowded with people…

With the world’s most artistic masterpieces per square kilometre, you’d think the city would take it easy, maybe rest on its laurels. But Venice refuses to retire from the inspiration business. In narrow calli (alleyways), you’ll glimpse artisans hammering out shoes crested like lagoon birds, cooks whipping up four-star dishes on single-burner hotplates, and musicians lugging 18th-century cellos to riveting baroque concerts played with punk-rock bravado.

by admin on Feb.04, 2010, under photos

These are one of my most popular photographies. Hurricane coming to Cuba, taken in 2008 on Cuban coast near Havana. I have two versions of this shot – one in color (HDR processed) and second in black & white? Which of them do you like more?

Havana: Vedado

by admin on Jan.08, 2010, under photos

On the coastal salient of Punta Brava, on the Taganana hill, toward the far end of the San Lazaro cove, rises the Hotel Nacional de Cuba since December 30, 1930, the “flagship” of Gran Caribe. “Nacional” is the most beautiful hotel I’ve ever seen. Great atmosphere, perfect services and – this great view from your room.

During the 19th century, the hill on which the hotel stands held the famous battery of Santa Clara. The “Ordoñez” cannon, one of the largest of its time, still lies in the hotel’s gardens. On the headland of Punta Brava, Corregidor Don Luis Aguilar chastised the British during the seige and assault of Havana. The hotel’s most famous and luxurious restaurant is named after him. I’ve made some street-shots from London in 2008. This is one of my favorites – London’s evening in the center of the city. I like the light and shadows.

Life: Cuba

by admin on Dec.23, 2009, under news

I love Cuba, I was there two times (1998 & 2008) and I plan the trip to Havana in the near future again. Havana is one of the most beatiful cities I’ve ever seen. Local architecture, local life, people and everything is just incredible – in the good sense.
